New Delhi, Jan 8: Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal has expressed profound grief over the sudden demise of his son, Agnivesh Agarwal, who passed away at the age of 49 following a cardiac arrest in New York.
Agnivesh, who was recovering from a skiing accident, had been admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital in the city. Despite showing signs of improvement, he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest, leaving his family and colleagues in shock.
Calling it “the darkest day” of his life, Anil Agarwal said in a statement: “My beloved son, Agnivesh, left us far too soon. He was just 49 years old, healthy, full of life, and dreams. Following a skiing accident in the US, he was recovering well in Mount Sinai Hospital, New York. We believed the worst was behind us. But fate had other plans, and a sudden cardiac arrest snatched our son away from us.”
Born in Patna on June 3, 1976, Agnivesh Agarwal grew up in a middle-class Bihari family before rising to prominence as a business leader. Remembering his son’s journey, Anil Agarwal said: “From a middle-class Bihari family, he grew into a man of strength, compassion, and purpose. The light of his mother’s life, a protective brother, a loyal friend, and a gentle soul who touched everyone he met.”

Agnivesh had played a significant role in Vedanta’s growth and was widely respected for his leadership and vision. His untimely death has left a void in the company and among those who knew him personally.
The Vedanta family, along with friends and associates, has
extended condolences to the Agarwal family during this time of immense loss.

Agarwal has two children, his late son, Agnivesh, and a daughter, Priya, who is on the board of Vedanta Ltd. and chairperson of Hindustan Zinc Ltd.
