Kolkata, Apr 19: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, during his election campaign in West Bengal, strongly criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), calling its governance “ruthless” and a major obstacle to the state’s development.
Speaking at a public event, Pradhan alleged that TMC’s approach towards progress and social justice has been “deeply disappointing.” He pointed to mismanagement in the transport sector, irregular fines, and alleged illegal financial practices that, according to him, have weakened Bengal’s economy. He further accused the state government of being hostile towards women and tribal communities, citing TMC’s opposition to the Women’s Reservation Bill and its “disrespectful conduct” towards President Droupadi Murmu.
Earlier in the day, Pradhan attended the Sri Jagannath World Peace Mahayajna in Kolkata alongside BJP National President Nitin Nabin. The three-day spiritual festival, dedicated to world peace, harmony, and unity, drew large crowds of devotees. Pradhan described his participation as a “rare and blessed opportunity” to witness Lord Jagannath’s divine form and emphasized the event’s message of spiritual solidarity.

He also interacted with truck owners, highlighting the challenges faced by Bengal’s logistics and transport sector. Pradhan reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a developed India by 2047, stressing that a prosperous “Sonar Bangla” could only be achieved if the state government worked for the people rather than against them.
Pradhan concluded by saying that the people of Bengal are now aware of the injustices and will respond decisively in the coming days.
