Bengaluru, Oct 17: A female engineering student has alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a fellow student inside a men's washroom on the campus of a private engineering college in South Bengaluru.

Although the incident took place on October 10, the matter came to light on October 15 after the victim lodged a complaint in this regard.

Based on plaint, police took the accused, Jeevan Gowda, a sixth-semester student, into custody.

In the complaint, the victim stated that the accused was her classmate and they knew each other.

On 10th of October, Gowda allegedly called the victim multiple times during the lunch break and asked her to meet him near the architecture block on the seventh floor. When she arrived, the accused allegedly tried to kiss her.

As she resisted and ran away, the accused followed her to the sixth floor, where he dragged her into a men's washroom, and sexually assaulted her.

Following the incident, the survivor confided in two of her friends.

The FIR also notes that Gowda later called her, allegedly asking if she "needed a pill."

Taking note of the report, a case has been registered under Section 64 (Punishment for Rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and further probe was initiated.

A crime scene reconstruction has been conducted on Thursday, said police adding that the accused has been forwarded to court.
