New Delhi, Nov 10: A powerful explosion near the historic Red Fort here sent shockwaves through the national capital on Monday evening, with initial reports indicating at least eight people feared dead and multiple severe injuries.

The blast, which occurred in a parked vehicle near the Red Fort Metro Station, immediately triggered a massive fire that engulfed at least three to four nearby cars, plunging the busy tourist and commercial area into chaos.

Eyewitnesses described a deafening sound followed by thick smoke and shattered glass, suggesting a high-intensity device. Police and emergency services swiftly reached the spot, cordoning off the area and diverting traffic as a precaution. Seven fire tenders battled the inferno, which severely damaged the vehicles.
