Bhubaneswar, Nov 24: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the passing away of veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra, describing his demise as an irreparable loss to Indian cinema.

 

A Shining Star of Indian Cinema

Minister Pradhan highlighted Dharmendra’s decades-long reign over millions of hearts, achieved through his powerful acting, simplicity, and warm connection with audiences. He called Dharmendra “a shining star of Indian cinema” whose legacy will continue to inspire and guide generations of artists.

Dharmendra, fondly known as Bollywood’s “He-Man,” passed away at the age of 89 after a prolonged illness. His death has prompted tributes from across the nation, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who both acknowledged his iconic status and immense contribution to Indian cinema.

A Career Spanning Six Decades

Debuting in 1960 with ‘Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere’, Dharmendra went on to star in more than 300 films. His unforgettable performances in ‘Sholay’, ‘Chupke Chupke’, and ‘Phool Aur Patthar’ remain etched in the collective memory of Indian audiences. He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2012 and served as a Member of Parliament from Bikaner in Rajasthan between 2004 and 2009.
