New Delhi, Mar 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a high-level meeting with Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors to assess India’s preparedness amid the evolving crisis in West Asia, stressing vigilance, coordination and swift response.
‘Team India’ Approach to Tackle Crisis
Addressing the meeting via video conferencing, Modi expressed confidence that India would navigate the situation through a “Team India” approach, recalling how coordinated Centre-State action helped mitigate disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He noted that the situation remains dynamic and requires constant monitoring, adding that an inter-ministerial group has been reviewing developments on a daily basis since March 3.
Focus on Economy, Energy & Supply Chains
The Prime Minister outlined key priorities, including maintaining economic and trade stability, ensuring energy security, safeguarding citizens’ interests, and strengthening industry and supply chains amid global uncertainty.
He urged states to ensure smooth supply chain operations and take strict action against hoarding and profiteering.
States Told to Stay Alert
Modi called for activation of control rooms at both state and district levels and emphasised administrative preparedness to prevent disruptions.
He also highlighted the importance of advance planning in agriculture, particularly monitoring fertiliser storage and distribution ahead of the Kharif season to avoid inconvenience to farmers.
Caution Against Rumours & Fraud
The Prime Minister warned against misinformation and rumours, stressing the need for timely dissemination of accurate information to prevent panic.
He also advised authorities to remain vigilant against online fraud and fake agents exploiting the situation.
Focus on Coastal, Border States
Special emphasis was laid on border and coastal states, particularly in managing shipping, essential supplies and maritime operations amid disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz.
Modi also urged states to establish helplines and support systems for Indian citizens in West Asia to ensure timely assistance.

Calling for both immediate and long-term preparedness, the Prime Minister stressed accelerating efforts in alternative energy, including solar power, biofuels, electric mobility and expansion of piped natural gas, alongside boosting domestic oil and gas exploration.
Centre’s Measures Highlighted
During the meeting, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh outlined steps taken by the Centre, including ensuring adequate LPG supply and reducing excise duty on petrol and diesel.
Chief Ministers appreciated the Centre’s initiatives, expressing confidence over stable fuel availability and welcoming measures such as increased commercial LPG allocation to states.
