Hyderabad, Jan 10: A tragic incident unfolded in Hyderabad where a 27‑year‑old woman allegedly killed her 10‑month‑old son before dying by suicide.


The deceased woman has been identified as 27-years-old Sushma. She was married four years ago to Yashwanth Reddy, a chartered accountant. The couple had a 10-month-old son, Yashavardhan Reddy.


According to preliminary investigations, Sushma had gone to her mother Lalitha's (44) house for shopping related to a family function. After reaching the house, she reportedly went into another room with her baby, administered poison to the child and then took her own life.


The matter came to light after Yashwanth Reddy returned home from work at around 9:30 pm. Finding the bedroom locked from inside, he broke open the door and found his wife and son lying unconscious.


They were immediately rushed to nearby hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.


On seeing her daughter and grandson lying dead, Lalitha also allegedly attempted suicide. She was taken to a hospital, where is under treatment.


Officials stated that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy.

The incident has raised concerns about the impact of domestic discord on mental health and family well‑being.


Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and are recording statements from family members and others to establish the exact sequence of events.
