New Delhi, Feb 21: Security agencies have placed the national capital on high alert following intelligence inputs about a possible terror plot near the historic Red Fort.

According to reports, Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) may be planning to carry out an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in the area.

Authorities have tightened security around Red Fort and nearby localities, including Chandni Chowk, where a temple has been flagged as a potential target.

The alert comes amid speculation that the group could be attempting a retaliatory strike following the February 6 blast at a mosque in Islamabad.

While officials have not confirmed the presence of any specific device, security forces are treating the threat with utmost seriousness. Additional patrols, checkpoints, and surveillance have been deployed across sensitive zones in Old Delhi.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police are coordinating closely with intelligence units to monitor possible sleeper cells and cross-border links. Past investigations have already established Lashkar’s involvement in earlier Red Fort-related terror incidents, raising concerns about renewed attempts to destabilize the capital.

Residents and visitors have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
