Mumbai, Apr 28: A suspected food poisoning incident claimed four lives in Mumbai, where an entire family died overnight under mysterious circumstances, prompting a detailed investigation.
The deceased were identified as Abdullah Dokadia (40), his wife Nasreen (35), and their daughters Ayesha (16) and Zainab (13). The incident occurred in the Paydhonie area.
Events Leading To Deaths
According to preliminary information, the family had dinner at home on Saturday and had invited relatives. After consuming biryani, they reportedly ate watermelon around 1 am. By early morning, between 5 and 6 am, all four began experiencing vomiting and loose motions.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Munde said, “An unnatural death report has been registered… Food samples and body samples have been taken. Further investigation is underway.”
Eyewitness Account
A doctor residing in the same building described the situation when he reached the house. “They were in a drowsy state. One of the daughters was gasping for breath… I started CPR but she did not revive,” he said, adding that she was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Local resident Dr Zaid Qureshi said the family showed symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea, and severe weakness before being rushed for treatment.

Hospitalisation & Deaths
As their condition worsened, the family was first taken to a nearby facility and later referred to JJ Hospital, where all four died during treatment.
Waris Pathan termed the incident “tragic and serious” and demanded a thorough probe to establish the exact cause and make findings public.

Police have registered a case of accidental death. Authorities have collected food and biological samples during postmortem examinations. While food poisoning is suspected, officials said other possibilities have not been ruled out, and the exact cause will be determined after forensic reports are completed.
