Gwalior, Apr 27: A peculiar divorce case from Madhya Pradesh has reached the Madhya Pradesh High Court after a woman secured a divorce by identifying her husband’s sister as his “second wife” based on a photograph.
The woman, a resident of Gwalior, had been married since 1998 to a marketing company officer. According to case details, the husband’s frequent absence led to disputes, and the couple had been living separately since 2015.
In 2021, she approached a family court seeking divorce, alleging that her husband had remarried. As evidence, she submitted a family group photograph, claiming that a woman seen standing next to her husband was his second wife. The court accepted the claim and granted an ex-parte divorce decree in her favour.
The husband, however, later contended that the woman identified as his “second wife” was in fact his own sister. He said he was unaware of the proceedings and did not get an opportunity to present his side before the decree was passed.

Government advocate Dharmendra Sharma said the husband has now challenged the order before the High Court, alleging that the divorce was obtained through false and misleading representation.
The High Court is currently hearing the matter, with the husband seeking to have the divorce order set aside on the grounds that it was based on incorrect claims.
