Pune, Nov 14: Eight people were killed while over 15 sustained injuries in an accident at the Selfie Point on the Navale Bridge in the outskirts of Pune city on Thursday evening.
According to reports, the incident occurred when a container truck travelling from Satara to Mumbai lost control and rammed into over 20 vehicles, setting off a chain collision along the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway in Pune.
The accident left the two trucks and several cars in flames, and brought traffic to a standstill.
On being informed, fire engines immediately arrived the scene, and initiated firefighting operations. Following the incident, several vehicles were seen stranded on both the sides of the national highway.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a Rs 5 lakh compensation for the families of the victims in the accident.
“The incident of some people losing their lives in the accident on the new bridge in Pune is extremely tragic and heartbreaking. I offer my heartfelt tribute to the victims and share in the grief of their families. The heirs of the deceased will be provided financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each,” Fadnavis said.
