Cyclone Likely To Form Over Arabian Sea In Next 12 Hours

The weather department has issued a sever cyclone formation alert away from the Gujarat coast in fast-paced escalation witnessed overnight.

Bhubaneswar, Oct 3: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted likely formation of cyclone over Arabian Sea in the next 12 hours. Following this, an alert has also been issued by the weather agency.

The weather department has issued a sever cyclone formation alert and said that the system is likely to intensify further and may convert into an intense cyclone in the next 24 hours.


According to reports, the deep depression that crossed the Odisha coast on Thursday evening has weakened into a depression and lay on this morning over interior Odisha, 40 km south-southwest of Phulbani; 100 km east-northeast of Bhawanipatna; 140 km south of Sambalpur; and 190 km south of Jharsuguda (all in Odisha).

It may track north-north-west across interior Odisha and weaken gradually into a well-marked low pressure area during the course of the day today (Friday).


Heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for the states of Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, eastern Madhya Pradesh, and eastern Uttar Pradesh.

While heavy rains have already submerged coastal and southern parts of Odisha, an orange alert of heavy rainfall alert has been placed for all 30 districts of the state today.


The IMD has further predicted that on October 3, wind speeds may reduce to about 45–55 km per hour, but the impact of the storm will continue for several days.
