New Delhi, Nov 26: After an episode of harassment in the airport of Shanghai, China, Arunachal Pradesh woman Pema Wang Thongdok took to X, showing her gratitude to people who supported her during the hard time, while spreading the message of unity among Indians to hit back at trolls.

Pema Thongdok lives in the UK and was all set to travel to Japan from London on November 21 when she allegedly faced harassment from Chinese officials in Pudong airport, Shanghai.

The immigration officials claimed that her Indian passport was invalid because her birthplace was Arunachal Pradesh, a state belonging to China by them. She was detained for 18 hours by the immigration officers and denied access food and other facilities in the airport. Despite having a Japanese visa, she was not allowed to board the plane to Japan.

The immigration officers and the China Eastern Airlines mockingly suggested her to apply for a Chinese passport. She asked the Indian Consulate for help who resolved the issue and allowed her to depart Shanghai.

Last night, Thongdok took to her social media and thanked those who came in support of her, including the Indian Consulate.

For trolls, she wrote that she doesn't have time to respond to them because she has a high-profile job and works full time, due to which she isn't active on X.

She emphasised on how important the unity of Indians and sovereignty is. "I don't even live in India so any action that Indian govt takes will be for the benefit & pride of my fellow Indians and Arunachalis living here, not mine. We are one nation we stand for one another (sic)," she wrote.

On November 25, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reaffirmed India's sovereignty and rejected China's claim on Arunachal Pradesh, saying, "Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India, and this is a self-evidence fact. No amount of denial by the Chinese side is going to change this indisputable reality.
