Approval Of 57 New KVs; Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Expresses Gratitude

Key Points

The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, sanctioned the proposal on Wednesday, with an estimated investment of Rs 5862.55 crore.

New Delhi, Oct 1: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has extended heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the Union Cabinet’s approval of 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across India, including six in Odisha.

The decision marks a significant step toward expanding access to quality education in underserved and aspirational regions.

The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, sanctioned the proposal on Wednesday, with an estimated investment of Rs 5862.55 crore. Of this, Rs 2585.52 crore will be allocated for infrastructure development, while Rs 3277.03 crore will support operational expenses.

The newly approved schools will be established in 17 states and union territories, including Telangana, Bihar, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Jammu & Kashmir. These regions include aspirational districts, left-wing extremism-affected zones, and hilly terrains where educational infrastructure is often limited.

In a notable first, all 57 new KVs will feature ‘Bal Vatika’—a pre-primary section offering three years of foundational learning. This aligns with NEP 2020’s emphasis on early childhood education and holistic development.

Pradhan took to social media platform X to express his gratitude, stating, “The NDA government is committed to delivering 21st-century education to every corner of the country and fulfilling the aspirations of our youth.”

The move follows a previous approval of 85 Kendriya Vidyalayas and is expected to significantly reduce the demand-supply gap in central schooling. It also reinforces the Centre’s resolve to uplift educational standards and ensure that no child is left behind due to geographical or socio-economic barriers.
