Chamoli, Dec 31: In a tragic incident late Tuesday evening, about 60 people were injured when a loco train carrying workers and officials collided with a stationary goods train inside the Pipalkoti tunnel of the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project in Chamoli district.

The collision occurred during routine operations inside the tunnel, leading to chaos and panic among those onboard.

Rescue teams rushed to the site and began evacuating the injured, many of whom sustained fractures and head injuries. Ambulances and medical teams were deployed to nearby hospitals for immediate treatment.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, with preliminary reports suggesting possible miscommunication or signaling errors. Senior officials from the project and district administration visited the site to oversee rescue and relief operations.

The Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project, a major infrastructure initiative in Uttarakhand, has faced delays and challenges in the past. This accident has raised fresh concerns about safety protocols within the project’s operations.
