Almora, Dec 30: At least 6 people are feared dead and several sustained injuries after a passenger bus plunged into a deep gorge near Bhikiyasain in Almora district on Tuesday morning.

The tragic accident occurred along a treacherous stretch of road, prompting an urgent rescue response from local authorities.

According to the initial reports, the bus—believed to be carrying around a dozen passengers—lost control and diverged off the mountain road before tumbling into the gorge.

Eyewitnesses and early information from officials indicate that the driver may have lost control.

Emergency Response and Rescue Efforts

Rescue teams, including personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police, rushed to the site soon after the accident was reported. The victims were rescued and rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Local authorities have cordoned off the accident site as part of the rescue and relief operation.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, though preliminary indications point to speed and loss of control on the hilly road as possible factors. 

CM Dhami expresses anguish.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the incident.

"We have received extremely sad news of a bus traveling from Bhikiyasain to Ramnagar in Almora district, which met with an accident on the Bhikiyasain-Vinayak motorway, resulting in casualties. This incident is extremely painful and heartbreaking.

I pray to God to give place to the souls of the departed at His feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this immense sorrow.

The district administration is immediately arranging for the injured passengers to be admitted to nearby hospitals. Those seriously injured have been referred to higher medical centers for better treatment. The entire incident is being continuously monitored, and I am in constant contact with local administrative officials.
