Mumbai, Nov 28: Mumbai police successfully rescued a 5-year-old girl who had been kidnapped by her own maternal uncle and aunt from Vakola in Santacruz (East) and sold for Rs 90,000.

According to reports, the child was initially sold to a buyer for Rs 90,000, who later resold her to another individual for Rs 1.8 lakh.

The incident came to light after a complaint was lodged at Vakola Police Station.

Acting swiftly, police officials launched an investigation and traced the girl to Panvel. A special team was dispatched, and the child was rescued and brought back safely to Mumbai on November 25.

Authorities have confirmed that the accused relatives were involved in orchestrating the abduction and sale.

While further investigation is underway to identify all individuals linked to the trafficking chain, on the other hand the successful rescue has been hailed as a major achievement by Mumbai police.

However, the case has sparked outrage and concern over child safety and trafficking in urban areas.

Police have reportedly arrested five persons inclduing the victim's maternal uncle in connection with the case.
