Bhubaneswar, Jan 24: According to Vastu Shastra, the kitchen is considered not just a place for cooking but the very centre of a home’s energy and health. The correct placement of every item in the kitchen is believed to directly influence happiness, peace, and financial stability within the household.

Among these, the position of the kitchen sink holds particular importance. Vastu experts recommend placing the sink in the northeast direction, as this is said to attract positive energy and prosperity. Ideally, the person washing utensils should face north, which is believed to bring mental peace and enhance prosperity in the home.

On the other hand, placing the sink in the southwest direction is considered inauspicious. Such positioning is thought to increase family disputes, create unrest, and even lead to financial imbalance. Another important guideline is to avoid placing the sink too close to the gas stove, since the stove represents the fire element while the sink symbolises water.

Fire and water are opposite forces and keeping them side by side may generate negative energy, disturbing peace and harmony in the household. Maintaining a safe distance between the two is therefore considered essential.

Additionally, Vastu advises against keeping a dustbin directly under the sink, as this may encourage the flow of negative energy and even cause health problems. Instead, the dustbin should be placed in a separate area of the kitchen to maintain cleanliness and positive vibrations.
