Bhubaneswar, Apr 28: A recent study has raised concerns about the potential health risks of consuming more than 300 grams of chicken per week. Researchers have found a significant correlation between high poultry intake and an increased risk of gastrointestinal cancer, particularly among men.

The study, published in the journal Nutrients, analyzed data from over 4,000 participants over a 19-year period. Researchers collected information on dietary habits, lifestyle choices, and medical history to assess the long-term effects of poultry consumption.

The findings revealed that individuals who consumed more than 300 grams of chicken weekly had a 27% higher mortality risk compared to those who ate less than 100 grams. The risk was even more pronounced among men, who faced double the likelihood of dying from gastrointestinal cancer.

Despite these findings, researchers emphasize that further studies are needed to confirm the results and understand the underlying mechanisms. They also acknowledge certain limitations in their study, such as the lack of data on processed poultry consumption and cooking methods.

Health professionals recommend moderation in poultry intake and encourage a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to reduce cancer risk. While chicken remains a popular protein source, consumers may want to reconsider their weekly intake in light of these findings.
