Dry Lips? This Simple DIY May Be The Overnight Solution You Need

Key Points

As winter intensifies, chapped lips become a widespread issue. While chemical-based products offer short-term relief, homemade remedies are gaining popularity.

In such situations, home remedies prove to be the most effective. So, here’s how you can make lip balm at home.

Bhubaneswar, Nov 13: As winter tightens its grip across Odisha, residents are once again grappling with seasonal skin woes, particularly the persistent issue of chapped lips. The drop in humidity and the onset of cold winds have led to a surge in complaints of dry, cracked, and darkened lips, a condition exacerbated by the loss of natural moisture from the skin.

While many turn to store-bought moisturisers and petroleum jelly for relief, dermatologists warn that chemical-laden products often provide only temporary comfort. In response, a growing number of individuals are embracing natural remedies, with homemade lip balm emerging as a popular alternative. With rising awareness about clean beauty, the demand for chemical-free skincare products has surged. Local markets and online platforms have reported increased interest in DIY lip balm kits and organic ingredients.

According to local wellness experts, a simple yet effective lip balm can be prepared using beetroot, rose water, and rose petals. The ingredients are ground into a paste, strained, and then blended with coconut oil and almond oil. To enhance its healing properties, aloe vera gel can also be added before gently warming the mixture. The final product, stored in a glass jar, offers a soothing and chemical-free solution to winter lip care.

How To Prepare It:

First, chop beetroot into small pieces. Then grind it with rose water and rose petals. Strain the mixture using a cloth and mix it well with coconut oil and almond oil. Next, add aloe vera gel and petroleum jelly to the mixture. Heat the paste slightly in a microwave. If you don’t have a microwave, you can warm water in a pot and place the container with the mixture inside it. Your homemade lip balm is now ready. Store it in a glass jar or bottle and use as needed.

The shift toward natural treatments reflects a broader trend of self-care rooted in traditional practices, offering both affordability and effectiveness for those seeking relief from winter’s harsh effects.

Experts also emphasise the importance of hydration and a balanced diet rich in vitamins during winter. Drinking adequate water and consuming foods high in vitamin E and C can naturally support lip health and prevent dryness.
