Bhubaneswar, Feb 9: As Valentine's Week unfolds in Odisha's capital, Bhubaneswar has embraced the romance with vibrant energy.

On Sunday, marking Propose Day, couples flocked to colleges, parks, hotels, cinema halls, and shopping malls, exchanging roses and gifts amid a weekend rush that saw heavy footfall at gift outlets.

The festive spirit carried into commercial areas, where shops adorned with heart-shaped lamps, couples watches, dresses, and shirts drew eager buyers.

With Monday dedicated to Chocolate Day -- the sweetest day of Valentine's Week -- traders have ramped up preparations to meet surging demand.

Cake and chocolate trader Vivek Mundra noted a rise in orders for premium chocolate brands. "Chocolate cakes with attractive packaging and heart-shaped chocolates are in high demand this year. These products are visually appealing and beautifully designed," he said.

Prices for cakes start around Rs 500, depending on size, while chocolates priced at about Rs 100 are seeing particularly strong sales.

Chocolate Day offers couples a delightful opportunity to express affection through thoughtful, cocoa-inspired gestures. Whether you're a man surprising your partner or a woman planning a sweet moment, the focus remains on sincerity and joy.

Things to Do

Choose thoughtfully: Opt for your partner's favourite flavours or premium brands. Heart-shaped boxes, personalised chocolate assortments, or artisanal treats add a romantic touch.

Add a personal element: Pair chocolates with a handwritten note, or prepare homemade treats for extra warmth.

Surprise them at home, work, or during a date.

Plan shared moments: Enjoy a chocolate dessert together, visit a café for chocolate-based treats, or create a cosy evening with chocolate fondue or a tasting.

Keep it inclusive: Gift chocolates to friends, family, or colleagues to spread sweetness beyond romance.

Dress the part: Coordinate outfits in reds or subtle romantic tones to enhance the mood during outings.

Things Not to Do

Don't assume preferences: Avoid gifting flavours they dislike -- allergies or tastes can ruin the gesture.

Don't overdo extravagance: Lavish gifts are nice, but heartfelt simplicity often means more than excess.

Don't forget communication: Skip grand assumptions; discuss plans lightly to align expectations.

Don't ignore health: Balance indulgence, too much chocolate can lead to discomfort.

Don't make it obligatory: Pressure or comparison with others can dampen the joy; keep it genuine.

In Bhubaneswar's bustling markets and cosy corners, Chocolate Day promises to melt hearts with its blend of tradition and tenderness. Whether exchanging premium bars or sharing a simple treat, the day celebrates love in its sweetest form.
