Russia, June 12: Odisha's renowed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has set a new global benchmark by being named as the first-ever sand sculptor from India to win the highly prized Russia Grand Sand Master Cup 2026. This honour was bestowed on him at the II International Festival of Sand Sculpture in Russia, which began on June 11 at Kaliningrad Region of Russia.
Pattnaik earned this award due to his outstanding talent in the field of sand sculpture art and his notable artwork depicting the problem of global warming in the present age. The award-winning sculptural piece was a three metres tall and told a strong story about the environment of the Earth through its visual representation. The former side showed the impact of climate change and environmental degradation, while the latter illustrated the brighter future that was based on environmental conservation, plantation of trees, and sustainability.

By creating this work of art, Pattnaik highlighted the importance of the role of trees in fighting against climate change and global warming since they absorbed CO2, generated oxygen, saved water resources, prevented soil erosion, and protected animal habitats.
