Authorities warned that waves as high as 3 metres could reach parts of Iwate Prefecture and Hokkaido, urging residents to immediately move to higher ground. Emergency services have been placed on high alert as officials assess potential damage and closely monitor the situation.

In its advisory, officials said tsunami waves were already approaching coastal areas and could strike repeatedly, stressing that evacuation must not be delayed and people should remain in safe locations until all warnings are lifted.
