New Delhi, Apr 3: Residents across Delhi-NCR experienced mild tremors on Friday after a 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan, sending shockwaves across parts of North India.

Epicentre In Afghanistan, Tremors Across North India
According to reports, the earthquake’s epicentre was located near Darawan in Afghanistan at coordinates 71.01°E and 36.52°N. The tremors were felt not only in Delhi-NCR but also in Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, and Kargil.

Authorities said the vibrations were mild, and there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.

Second Tremor Felt This Year
This marks the second instance of seismic activity being felt in the national capital this year. Earlier in January, a mild earthquake measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale struck parts of New Delhi, causing brief tremors.

NCS Details Previous Quake
The earlier quake, as per the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), had occurred at around 8:44 am with its epicentre in North Delhi at a shallow depth of five kilometres.

No Immediate Threat Reported
Officials have maintained that the latest tremors were not severe and do not pose any immediate threat, though they continue to monitor seismic activity in the region.
