North Carolina, Jan 3: The FBI announced on Friday that it successfully foiled a potential ISIS-inspired attack in North Carolina planned for New Year’s Eve, arresting an 18-year-old suspect before any harm could be carried out.
The suspect, identified as Christian Sturdivant, was taken into custody on December 31 following a months-long investigation. Authorities said the plot was disrupted in time, preventing what could have been a dangerous assault.
On FBI Radar Since 2022
According to officials, Sturdivant had been under FBI surveillance since January 2022, when he was still a minor. Investigators revealed that he had been in contact with an ISIS member overseas, who allegedly instructed him to dress in all black and commit attacks using a hammer.
The FBI emphasized that the arrest highlights the importance of ongoing counterterrorism vigilance, especially against radicalization attempts targeting young individuals.
