Washington, Sep 10: In a bold election‑season pledge, President Donald Trump vowed to grant every adult American a $5,000 dividend if Republicans manage to retain control of both chambers of Congress this November.

Speaking at a Republican convention in Dallas, Trump declared: “If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them because of our tremendous strength and success economically, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for USD 5,000.”

He added a condition: “The only caveat I have is that the dividend that we're making must be spent in the United States of America.”

No further details were provided about the funding source for the proposal, which could theoretically cost more than $1 trillion. Trump insisted only that “our country is making so much money.”

Doubling down on his appeal to voters, Trump urged supporters to treat the midterms as a referendum on his leadership. “I’m asking you to pretend that I’m on the ballot. I’m on the ballot, I’m on the ballot — just one more time,” he told the crowd.

The announcement comes as Trump faces mounting challenges. Opinion polls show his approval ratings in the low 30s, with voters frustrated by high prices and the ongoing war against Iran.
