The breakthrough came during peace talks held in Doha, mediated by Qatar and Turkey.
Doha, Qatar – Oct 19: After a week of intense and deadly border clashes that left dozens dead and hundreds injured, Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire.

The breakthrough came during peace talks held in Doha, mediated by Qatar and Turkey, according to an official statement from Qatar’s Foreign Ministry.

The negotiations mark the most significant diplomatic engagement between the two nations since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021. Both sides committed to follow-up meetings aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the ceasefire and establishing mechanisms for long-term peace and stability.

The clashes, which erupted along the volatile border region, saw unprecedented violence including drone strikes and shelling.

Civilians on both sides were caught in the crossfire, prompting urgent appeals from regional powers such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar to de-escalate the situation.

Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the talks and emphasized the importance of continued dialogue. Meanwhile, Pakistani officials expressed cautious optimism, stating that the ceasefire is a step toward restoring trust and regional security.
