West Asia Conflict / “A Whole Civilisation Will Die Tonight”: Trump Warns Iran over Strait of Hormuz Standoff

Key Points
Trump’s ultimatum over reopening the Strait of Hormuz escalates as Kharg Island comes under attack, threatening Iran’s oil exports and fuelling global energy volatility amid mounting US-Iran tensions.
Washington, Apr 7: US President Donald Trump issued a stark ultimatum to Iran over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, warning that “a whole civilisation will die tonight” unless Tehran restores access to the vital shipping channel.
His deadline was set for 8:00 PM EDT on Tuesday. While the warning carried grave implications, Trump also suggested the possibility of a breakthrough, if Iran complies. He added that the world might witness a historic turning point.
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” said Trump.
Despite the severity of his warning, Trump also hinted at
the possibility of a breakthrough, saying: “I don’t want that to happen, but it
probably will.”

“However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?,” he added.
“We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!,” said the US President.

✨Iranian outlet Mehr News reported that Kharg Island, Tehran’s critical oil hub and “crown jewel” of its energy infrastructure, came under attack Tuesday. The strikes marked a major escalation in the US-Iran conflict, further destabilizing global energy markets.
Kharg Island, located in the Persian Gulf, handles nearly 90% of Iran’s oil exports, making it indispensable due to shallow coastlines unsuitable for large tankers. Its proximity to US bases in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia heightens vulnerability during conflict. And a sustained disruption could cripple Iran’s revenues and spike global fuel prices, especially after Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz intensified market volatility.
Trump had earlier hinted at striking the island, saying: “Maybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don’t. We have a lot of options.” The attack is widely viewed as a move to choke Iran’s oil exports and weaken its leverage over the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump’s Ultimatum
The US President extended his ultimatum for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, shifting the deadline from Monday to Tuesday after several prior delays. He had warned that without a deal, “Hell will reign down on them,” threatening destruction of bridges, power plants, and infrastructure.
Iran rejected the latest ceasefire proposal, prompting Trump to declare Tuesday’s 8 pm EDT deadline final and ominous.
