Mumbai, May 10: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday celebrated Mother’s Day by distributing specially curated Maternal Nutrition Kits in north Mumbai, highlighting the critical role of women in shaping India’s future as a Viksit Bharat.
Addressing the gathering, Goyal said the kits were designed to meet the nutritional needs of women during the final stages of pregnancy and the immediate requirements of newborns. “These kits have been thoughtfully curated to address every essential requirement for mothers and sisters during the final stages of pregnancy. It also takes into account the necessities for the newborn during their initial days, thereby ensuring the good health of both the mother and the child,” he noted.
The Union Minister emphasized that maternal and child health is directly linked to the nation’s progress. “A healthy child born to a healthy mother will be the next generation. This is the future of India, and India’s future is going to be the future of the world,” he said.
Goyal announced that the initiative would be expanded across north Mumbai to support women from lower-middle-income families, ensuring they do not face hardships during pregnancy and childbirth. He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for introducing welfare measures that empower women, including tap water supply to households, scholarships for girls, and improved sanitation facilities in schools.
“These initiatives are helping women become Atmanirbhar and enabling them to participate more actively in the country’s development journey,” Goyal added.
He lauded the growing participation of women across sectors, describing them as embodiments of Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Durga. “Our mothers and sisters are making rapid strides in every field; they will not spare anyone who attempts wrongdoing,” he remarked.
Extending greetings on Mother’s Day, Goyal underlined women’s contribution to preserving India’s heritage and cultural legacy. He said the nutrition kits would be distributed monthly to ensure sustained well-being of mothers and children.

“This initiative is currently being implemented across the entire North Mumbai region, with the broader objective of supporting women from economically weaker and lower-middle-income households,” he concluded.
