Welcome to the Jungle Eyes Weekend Jump After Decent Opening; Saturday and Sunday Crucial for Box Office Momentum
Decent Start to Akshay's Slapstick comedy show

Key Points

* Welcome To The Jungle has collected Rs17.15 crore India net so far and is expected to witness a strong weekend surge.
* Trade estimates project Saturday collections of Rs15.5–18 crore and a potential ₹20 crore-plus Sunday.
* The Akshay Kumar comedy is targeting a Rs52–58 crore domestic opening weekend, driven by mass audiences and family footfalls.

Bhubaneswar: Bollywood's biggest comedy ensemble of the year has finally arrived, and its theatrical journey has begun on a promising note. Welcome to the Jungle, the third installment of the blockbuster Welcome franchise headlined by Akshay Kumar, has registered a healthy opening and is now expected to witness significant growth over the weekend as spot bookings and family audiences gather momentum.

According to Sacnik live trade data, the film is currently running across 10,487 shows nationwide and has collected an estimated Rs13.40 crore net on Friday, taking its India net collections to Rs17.15 crore (including Thursday paid previews) and India gross collections to Rs20.31 crore, with final day-one numbers still awaited.

The opening indicates that while advance bookings remained moderate, the franchise continues to command strong recall value among mass audiences, particularly in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

Occupancy Improved Through the Day

The film witnessed a gradual rise in occupancy as the day progressed.

  • Morning Shows: 11.00%
  • Afternoon Shows: 26.85%
  • Evening/Night Shows: 28.85%
  • National Average: 22.23%–23.00%

Trade circles noted that single screens and smaller centres showed much stronger traction than premium multiplexes.

Among the best-performing markets were:

  • Lucknow – 37% occupancy
  • Jaipur – 33%
  • Chennai – 25.3%
  • Mumbai – 22.3%

Nearly 45% of the revenue came from national multiplex chains, while the bulk of ticket sales originated from mass circuits and standalone theatres.

Meta Humour Wins, Second Half Divides Opinion

Early audience reactions suggest the film embraces complete theatrical escapism rather than critical acclaim.

The first half has drawn appreciation for its self-aware humour, featuring tongue-in-cheek references to Akshay Kumar's recent box-office struggles, Bollywood vanity culture and industry accounting practices. Veteran actors Farida Jalal and Kiran Kumar delivered some of the film's most appreciated comic moments.

However, the second half has received mixed reactions, with critics pointing to an overstuffed cast of more than twenty actors, prolonged action sequences and inconsistent Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) that occasionally dilute the franchise's trademark situational comedy.

Saturday Could Deliver 20–30% Growth

Trade analysts believe the real test begins now.

Unlike content-driven multiplex films that rely heavily on advance bookings, Welcome to the Jungle is a classic mass entertainer expected to benefit from last-minute weekend bookings.

Based on Friday's trend, Saturday collections are projected to rise by 20% to 30%, taking the day's earnings to approximately Rs15.5 crore to Rs 18 crore net.

The growth is expected to come primarily from family audiences, youth groups and repeat footfalls in smaller towns where comedy franchises traditionally enjoy stronger theatrical pull.

Sunday May Cross Rs20 Crore

Sunday now appears to be the film's biggest opportunity.

If positive word-of-mouth among family audiences continues through Saturday evening, trade experts believe the film could comfortably breach the ₹20 crore net mark on Sunday, making it the highest-grossing day of the opening weekend.

Single-screen theatres are expected to play a decisive role, with spot bookings likely to remain strong throughout the day.

Opening Weekend Target: Rs52–58 Crore

With Friday providing a stable launchpad and weekend growth expected, the film is currently projected to finish its opening weekend in the range of Rs52 crore to ₹58 crore net domestically.

Achieving collections at the higher end of this range would significantly strengthen the film's prospects heading into its crucial first weekday.

Long-Term Verdict Depends on Mass Audience

For now, Welcome to the Jungle appears to have achieved exactly what its makers intended – an entertainer designed for theatrical escapism rather than critical validation.

Its long-term box-office performance will ultimately depend on whether audiences in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities continue to embrace its loud, chaotic comedy once the initial weekend excitement subsides. If family audiences continue responding positively over Saturday and Sunday, the film could establish a solid foundation before the crucial Monday test determines its staying power at the box office.
