New Delhi, Jan 16: Priya Kapur, the third wife of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, has approached the Supreme Court seeking certified copies of records related to the 2016 divorce proceedings between actor Karisma Kapoor and her former husband.
According to court sources, Priya Kapur has filed an application requesting access to the divorce petition, documents submitted before the court, orders passed by the Supreme Court and, in particular, the settlement agreement. She has said the documents are necessary to ascertain the financial terms and child custody arrangements agreed upon by her late husband during his divorce from Karisma Kapoor.
A bench led by Justice AS Chandurkar is expected to consider the request in a chamber hearing and decide whether the confidential records can be made available to her.
The development comes amid an ongoing legal dispute over Sunjay Kapur’s estate, estimated to be worth nearly Rs 30,000 crore. Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Kapur, have earlier moved the Delhi High Court challenging the validity of their father’s will, describing it as “forged and fabricated”.
The will reportedly bequeaths the bulk of Sunjay Kapur’s assets to Priya Kapur, excluding his children from his marriage to Karisma Kapoor, as well as his mother and siblings. In their plea, Samaira and Kiaan have alleged that the signatures on the will are not their father’s and claimed that Priya Kapur colluded with attesting witnesses to falsify the document.
They have sought inspection of the original will, which was submitted to the High Court in a sealed cover in September last year, and have also requested an interim injunction restraining Priya Kapur from transferring or dealing with the assets of the deceased businessman.
