  • New York, August 1: Marvel’s highly-anticipated film Spider-Man: Brand New Day finally hit theatres on Thursday. After creating history with a record-breaking Rs 60.60 crore net opening, the Tom Holland-led superhero film maintained its strong momentum on Day 2, inching closer to the Rs110 crore mark within just two days of release.

    According to reports, the film collected an impressive Rs49.35 crore net across 16,902 shows on Friday. With this, the movie's total India net collection has reached Rs109.95 crore, while its India gross stands at Rs131.46 crore. 

    The film is also making waves globally. As per Deadline, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to register a worldwide opening-day collection between $167 million and $173 million, including preview screenings.

    The film witnessed encouraging audience turnout on Friday. Its English 3D version recorded an overall occupancy of 43.48%, with collections building throughout the day, from 31.56% in morning shows to an impressive 66.78% during night shows. Meanwhile, occupancy stood at 36.79% for Hindi 3D, 23.69% for Hindi 2D, and 44.56% for English 2D. The superhero spectacle has also been released in Tamil and Telugu, expanding its reach across the country.

    Despite facing competition from Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' and Vijay's Tamil political thriller 'Jana Nayagan', the Marvel blockbuster has continued to dominate the box office. Trade experts believe the film is well on track to cross the Rs200 crore mark in India during its opening weekend.

    The film has already surpassed the opening-day records of several Hollywood blockbusters in India, like Avatar: The Way of Water (Rs40 crore) and Avengers: Endgame (Rs53 crore), further cementing its historic run.

    Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day features an ensemble cast including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, and Tramell Tillman. The film marks the fourth standalone Spider-Man outing for Tom Holland within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and serves as the successor to the blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home.
