Mumbai/Bhubaneswar, Jul 27: Odisha's Jyotirmayee Nayak emerged as the winner of Indian Idol Season 16, lifting the coveted trophy after months of standout performances on Sony Entertainment Television's popular singing reality show.
The 24-year-old singer from Baunsanal village in Nilgiri block of Balasore district sealed her victory with a powerful rendition of Saiyaan O Saiyaan, winning over both the judges and viewers in the grand finale.
Jyotirmayee outshone fellow finalists Anshika Chonkar, Manraj Veer Singh, Myscmme Bosu, Suhail Sufi and Tanishk Shukla to claim the title.
Along with the winner's trophy, she received a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh, while the runners-up were awarded ₹5 lakh each.
'I Manifested This'
Speaking after her victory, Jyotirmayee described the moment as the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream.
"Even after my name was announced as the winner, I couldn't immediately process that I had actually won. I had manifested this moment. I always told myself, 'I will become the winner,' with complete positivity and belief. Today, that dream has become a reality," she told IANS.
She also revealed that she hopes to establish herself as a playback singer in the Hindi film industry and dreams of lending her voice to actors Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt in the future.
'Indian Idol Changed Me Tremendously'
Jyotirmayee said the singing reality show transformed her both as an artiste and as an individual, helping her discover new dimensions of her voice.
"It has changed me tremendously. Before this, I had already won Odiya Superstar, and now winning Indian Idol has helped me discover many new aspects of myself as a singer," she said.
The singer shared that before entering the competition, she primarily performed songs by legendary singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, but the show encouraged her to experiment beyond her comfort zone.
"During the competition, I stepped out of my comfort zone and learned voice modulation. In the finale, I performed with a completely different vocal style, and that became one of the highlights of my performance," she said.
Recalling a memorable moment from the competition, Jyotirmayee said judge Shreya Ghoshal appreciated her rendition of Gazar Ne Kiya Hai Ishaara.
"When I sang Gazar Ne Kiya Hai Ishaara, Shreya Ghoshal ma'am appreciated the fact that I had chosen such a challenging style for the finale and successfully modulated my voice," she added.
From Throat Ailment To National Glory
Jyotirmayee also reflected on the difficult phase when a severe throat problem had threatened her singing career.
"My journey has been full of ups and downs. Those who have followed my journey know there was a phase when I was unable to sing because I had a severe throat problem. From that stage to reaching the finale and eventually winning the trophy has been an incredible journey," she said.
She added that while performing in the finale, her only focus was on delivering her best performance rather than thinking about the result.
Singer, Playback Artist And Music Therapist
Before winning Indian Idol 16, Jyotirmayee had already made a name for herself as a playback singer in the Odia music industry. She is also a trained music therapist, working with cancer patients and expecting mothers through music-based healing.
Her victory marks another milestone in a musical journey that began in Odisha and has now earned national recognition.
