FWICE withdraws its non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh following requests from film industry bodies and a legal notice issued by the actor.
Mumbai, June 3: The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has lifted the non-cooperation call that it imposed against actor Ranveer Singh. The decision comes after intervention requests from industry bodies and follows a legal challenge mounted by the actor himself over the controversial move.
As stated by the FWICE President B.N. Tiwari in a press conference in Mumbai, that the federation decided to withdraw their directive after some requests from the Cine & TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) and the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA).
The controversy arose due to Ranveer’s sudden decision to leave the cast of Farhan Akhtar’s film, Don 3. It was said that his decision to pull out of the film due to the difference in script and the subsequent delay incurred only days prior to the shooting incurred a loss of ₹45 crore for the movie makers. Resulting in, dissatisfaction of FWICE over the actor's last-minute withdrawal from the project and on May 25 took the step of issuing the non-cooperation call against him.
Further adding to the controversy by giving it a legal angle, Ranveer Singh issued a legal notice to FWICE in regard to the decision made by them. Responding to this legal notice, Ashoke Pandit, Chief Advisor of FWICE, said that the legal team of FWICE will be responding to the notice. While doing this, Pandit made it clear that FWICE does not have the right to give a total ban on any member. Further, Pandit expressed his hopes that a positive discussion would take place between the federation and the actor. This is because FWICE respects the contribution of Ranveer to the industry.
Making matters worse is the fact that experienced producer T.P. Aggarwal, who once served as the president of IMPPA, took his concerns to the Bombay Civil Court. The veteran claims that no organization, industry body, or association has the right to ban anyone or stop people from collaborating professionally with one another.
In the meantime, the Producers Guild of India also entered the fray with their point of view and expressed their dissatisfaction with a phenomenon which they believe is becoming more prevalent in the entertainment sector. Namely, that there are many cases where directors, actors, and technicians pull out of a project at the last minute.

Several personalities from the film fraternity expressed their opinions on this matter. Notable among them are Kangana Ranaut, Ram Gopal Varma, Padmini Kolhapure, Poonam Dhillon, Nikhil Dwivedi, and Sanjay Gupta.
Following the final decision, the federation retracted the boycott. Notably, after the withdrawal of the directive against Ranveer Singh, the road has been cleared for Dhurandar star Ranveer Singh to resume work and continue shooting his upcoming films without any interference.
