Key Points

The remake of the iconic 1999 song has divided social media users. While some praised, others stated that the remake cannot recreate the magic of the original hit.
Mumbai, May 28: The recently released remake version of the iconic song “Chunnari Chunnari” from the 1999 film 'Biwi No. 1' has pulled a wave of mixed reactions online. The track is featured in the upcoming film 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai', starring Varun Dhawan alongside Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur. While the makers aimed to tap into nostalgia with a refreshed presentation of the classic, the internet appears sharply divided over the result.

Soon after its release, the song began trending on social media platforms, where users expressed everything from disappointment to outright criticism. Many viewers felt that the remake relied too heavily on the popularity of the original rather than offering something fresh or innovative.

Several users on X mentioned the new version as “nostalgia bait,” stating that although the visualisation, the styling, and the choreography were very energetic, the song actually lacked the charm and impact of the original. The audeince suggested that the remake did not justify the original one and fails to match the aura of the original iconic number.

A section of social media users called the remake an unnecessary move, stating that “not every legendary song needs to be recreated,” while others even stated that the original version has been “completely ruined” by comparison. Another section comment summed up the sentiment by saying the new track made them go back to listening to the 1999 original repeatedly.

Nevertheless, the Varun Dhawan's new dance song successfully gathered few balanced responses as well as some positive feedbacks. Some percentile of audiances found the new version visually appealing and the actors quite impressive on screen. However, the comments also included that the original song, featuring Salman Khan, remains unmatched in terms of charisma, as it was not just a song, but an emotion. Despite the backlash, a segment of viewers appreciated the remake for its modernisation and energetic vibe.
