Bhubaneswar: The wait is officially over for global cinema fans. The highly anticipated trailer for Mega Power Star Ram Charan’s rustic sports-action drama, Peddi, dropped at a grand launch event in Mumbai Tuesday.

Helmed by Uppena director Buchi Babu Sana, the 3-minute-7-second glimpse introduces an expansive, emotionally charged universe that attempts to blend deep-rooted rural sentiment with high-octane theatrical adrenaline. 

​Backed by Vriddhi Cinemas, Mythri Movie Makers, and Sukumar Writings, the film is positioned as a major pan-India contender. With a premiere locked for June 3 and a worldwide theatrical release on June 4, 2026, the promotional engine has kicked into overdrive. 

​Peddi Narrative: From Daily Wage to the Playground Grid

​At its core, Peddi moves away from conventional, slick action tropes to focus on a character-driven, emotionally rooted arc. The story revolves around Peddi (Ram Charan), a gifted but struggling local youth who masters multiple sports to earn a basic living. Loved by his village, his rising stature directly irks a powerful, jealous landlord (played with typical menace by Jagapathi Babu). 

​The conflict forces Peddi to transition into a crossover athlete—fighting not just for trophies, but for the pride and survival of his people. The narrative’s localized emotional core is driven home by a striking voiceover from Boman Irani and a definitive dialogue that sets the tone for his character arc:

​Director Buchi Babu Sana delivers a striking visual playground, but the heavy lifting is done by Ram Charan’s physical performance. Demanding intense versatility, the trailer showcases Charan seamlessly shifting between a rugged cricketer, a traditional wrestler (pehelwan), and an explosive runner. 

​The final montage, featuring his distinct sporting avatars, delivers genuine mass moments. His performance pairs high-intensity action sequences with a grounded emotional sincerity, effectively making the physical combat feel deeply purposeful rather than gratuitous.

Trailer Bigger Hit than Pushpa 2

​Post the trailer release on You tube, Peddi clocked 6.6 million views in the Telugu version by its 7th hour.

​But all eyes were on the scale. Because, massive Telugu native openers like Guntur Kaaram brought in 38 million views within a 24-hour window, while Pushpa 2: The Rule dominated with 37 million views in Telugu alone within its first day.

​How It Stacks Up Against Pan-India Giants

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion Shattered digital records in 2017, generating over 50 million+ views across languages in 24 hours; went on to gross Rs1,810 crore globally. Baahubali relied on a massive cliffhanger. Peddi relies on localized sports emotion and Ram Charan's immediate post-stardom pull.

RRR Generated over 51 million views across languages on Day 1; established Ram Charan as a definitive global face. RRR carried the combined weight of Rajamouli, NTR Jr., and Charan. Peddi is a solo vehicle testing Charan's direct star equity.

Kalki 2898 AD Amassed 20 million+ views within hours of release, heavily riding on sci-fi scale and a massive ensemble cast.

While Kalki used futuristic spectacle, Peddi uses rustic, soil-of-the-earth mass drama to connect with the tier-2 and tier-3 centers.

‘Peddi’ God of Box Office?

​The trajectory of sports-dramas often relies on sustained word-of-mouth rather than purely front-loaded fan curiosity. Buchi Babu Sana’s vision seems to have hooked viewers, atleast on You Tube.

The YT trailer Telugu version collected 49.5 million eyeballs, whereas the Hindi version that clicked 3.5 mn views within 5 hours, recorded 33mn gluing to it.
