  • 'Ghar Kab Aaoge', the iconic song from 1997's 'Border', has been recreated for 'Border 2'.
  • Arijit Singh, Vishal Mishra, and Diljit Dosanjh join Sonu Nigam in the new version.

Mumbai, Jan 2: Nearly three decades after it first stirred hearts, 'Ghar Kab Aaoge' is back -- this time with a powerhouse line-up of voices. Singers Arijit Singh, Vishal Mishra and Diljit Dosanjh have joined Sonu Nigam for the reimagined version of the iconic song from JP Dutta’s 1997 war classic Border. The audio of the track, released by T-Series on Friday, marks one of the emotional high points in the run-up to Border 2.

The original song, penned by Javed Akhtar and composed by Anu Malik, also featured Roop Kumar Rathod and went on to become one of Hindi cinema’s most enduring tributes to soldiers and separation. The new version retains the soul of the original melody while adding fresh layers. Manoj Muntashir Shukla has contributed additional lyrics, while Mithoon steps in as one of the composers, subtly expanding the emotional canvas.

The song was launched at a grand event at Longewala Tanot in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan — a location steeped in military history and symbolism. Producer Nidhi Dutta described the recreated track as an extension rather than a reinvention. “Not to change something that’s beyond perfect, but to add more stories of our soldiers and their families,” she wrote, emphasising continuity over novelty.

'Border 2' is directed by Anurag Singh, known for 'Kesari' and 'Punjab 1984', and features an ensemble cast led by Sunny Deol, alongside Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty and Diljit Dosanjh. Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh and Medha Rana also play key roles. The film is backed by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta, and is slated for a theatrical release on January 23.

Teaser Review: Promise Meets Pushback
The teaser of Border 2, unveiled on Vijay Diwas (December 16), generated instant buzz and polarised reactions. Visually ambitious and scaled up, it promises a more intense and expansive war drama. Sunny Deol’s return has emerged as the biggest talking point, with viewers appreciating his restrained, seasoned presence rather than overt theatrics.

However, not all feedback has been positive. Several netizens criticised the visual effects, calling them “horrible,” while others flagged the casting choices and accused the film of leaning too heavily on nostalgia. Comments like “nostalgia baiting” trended alongside praise for Deol’s screen gravitas.

Verdict: While the teaser packs emotion and intent, uneven execution tempers the excitement.
