Mumbai, Sep 12: Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan’s latest film Haiwaan has made a modest start at the box office. Directed by Priyadarshan, the thriller earned an estimated Haiwaan Box Office Day 1: Akshay Kumar-Saif Ali Khan Film Opens to Rs 3 Crore, according to early trade figures.

Released on September 11, the film marks Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan’s return to the big screen together after 17 years. However, the much-awaited reunion has opened amid strong competition: Akshay Kumar-Saif Ali Khan Film Opens to Rs 3 Crore, both of which have already established a strong presence at the box office.

Haiwaan Box Office Collection Day 1

Haiwaan recorded relatively weak advance bookings before its theatrical release. Early estimates indicate that the film registered around 11 per cent occupancy across shows on Friday, resulting in an opening-day collection of approximately Rs 3 crore.

The film has also faced limited screen availability as audiences continue to show strong interest in competing releases.

While Haiwaan struggled to gain momentum, its competitors continued their strong theatrical runs.

Hanuman Ansh, despite completing more than a month in theatres, reportedly earned around Rs 10.50 crore on its sixth Friday, taking its India collection to approximately Rs 173.63 crore.

Meanwhile, Mirzapur: The Movie maintained its impressive run in its second week. The crime thriller is estimated to have collected around Rs 9 crore on its second Friday, taking its domestic total to nearly Haiwaan Box Office Day 1: Akshay Kumar-Saif Ali Khan Film Opens to Rs 3 Crore.

The strong performance of both films has created additional pressure on Haiwaan in an already crowded box-office market.

What Is Haiwaan About?

Directed by Priyadarshan, Haiwaan is a Hindi adaptation of his 2016 Malayalam thriller Oppam, which starred Mohanlal.

Saif Ali Khan plays Shyam, a blind caretaker who becomes caught in a dangerous situation after being framed for the murder of a retired judge. Forced to go on the run, he attempts to protect the judge’s daughter from a vengeful killer.

Can Haiwaan Recover Over the Weekend?

As per reports, the film’s opening-day collection is among the lower first-day figures associated with both Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan.

With strong competition from established box-office performers, Haiwaan will now rely heavily on positive word of mouth and strong weekend growth to improve its theatrical performance.

For now, the Akshay-Saif reunion has had a subdued beginning, with Haiwaan earning around Rs 3 crore on day one. The film’s weekend collections will be crucial in determining whether it can recover from its slow opening.
