Mumbai, Oct 4: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has called for urgent cyber safety education in schools after revealing a disturbing incident involving his daughter Nitara.
Speaking at a cyber awareness event in Mumbai, Akshay shared that a stranger had asked his daughter for inappropriate photos while she was playing an online video game.
A Wake-Up Call for Digital Parenting
Akshay recounted how Nitara, while engaged in a game that allowed interaction with strangers, received a message asking for nude pictures. She immediately quit the game and informed her mother, Twinkle Khanna. The actor praised his daughter’s quick response and emphasized the importance of open communication between children and parents regarding online experiences.
“This crime is becoming bigger than street crime,” Kumar warned, stressing that children are increasingly vulnerable to online predators and digital exploitation.
Cyber Period Proposal for Schools
In response to the incident, Akshay Kumar urged the Maharashtra Chief Minister to introduce a weekly “Cyber Period” in schools for students from grades 7 to 10. The proposed curriculum would focus on digital safety, responsible online behaviour, and awareness of cyber threats.
Akshay further said that such education is essential in today’s tech-driven world, where children are exposed to the internet from an early age. He also encouraged parents to stay informed and involved in their children’s digital lives.
