Chennai, Feb 28: Tamil superstar and political leader Thalapathy Vijay's wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has filed for divorce after more than 25 years of marriage.

The petition was submitted at the Chengalpattu Family Court, citing allegations of infidelity and cruelty.

According to reports, Sangeetha has accused Vijay of maintaining an extramarital relationship with a popular actress. The couple, who married in 1999, have two children - Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha. They had reportedly been living apart for nearly two years, though neither had publicly addressed the separation until now.

The case has been transferred to the Family Welfare Committee for mediation, as per procedure under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
