Mumbai, Jan 24: Mumbai Police arrested actor and self-styled film critic Kamaal R Khan, popularly known as KRK, for allegedly firing four rounds from his licensed firearm at a residential building in Andheri, a source said.
Khan was detained from his studio late on Friday and formally arrested after questioning. During interrogation, police said, he admitted to firing the shots on January 18. The firearm used in the incident has been recovered.
The firing reportedly targeted a building where writer-director Neeraj Kumar Mishra resides. Mishra lives on the second floor of the Oshiwara-area building, while model Prateek Baid occupies a flat on the fourth floor.
Police said the motive behind the incident remains unclear. According to investigators, Khan claimed he had no intention of causing harm and stated that the firing occurred while he was cleaning his weapon.
“He told us he was testing the firearm and aimed towards a mangrove patch in front of his residence, believing it to be a safe direction,” a police official said.
Khan further claimed that he assumed the bullets would be absorbed by the mangrove area but that strong winds caused at least one round to travel farther and strike the residential building.
Initially, police had no information about the identity of the shooter. The case was cracked following technical analysis and questioning, which led investigators to Khan, officials said.
