Bhubaneswar, Apr 9: Odisha continues to strengthen tribal education through Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS). Eleven students from EMRS institutions qualified in JEE Main 2026 (Phase I), marking a significant achievement.
Out of these, eight students have been selected for specialized JEE Advanced coaching in New Delhi under the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS).
This initiative aims to provide tribal students with access to high‑quality training and competitive opportunities, enabling them to pursue engineering education in premier institutions across India.

The selected students include three from EMRS Karanjia and EMRS Lahunipada, one from EMRS Ranki, and one from EMRS Bangiriposi. They have already begun their journey to the national capital, accompanied by teacher Priyanka Kumari.

✨Officials highlighted that this step will empower tribal youth by bridging educational gaps and offering them exposure to national‑level competitive environments. Pranati Patra, Joint Director of Odisha Model Tribal Education Society (OMTES), expressed gratitude to NESTS Commissioner Ajit Kumar Srivastava for supporting tribal education initiatives.
Among the achievers, Abhish Alam from EMRS Karanjia scored an impressive 97.50 percentile in JEE Main. Other successful candidates include Rinkirani Nayak, Sunil Kumar Nayak, and Sunia Hembram from EMRS Ranki; Samu Paleyia from EMRS Karanjia; Istifan Hembram, Pujarani Kisan, Deepa Kisan, Rabin Oram, and Salakhu Hembram from EMRS Lahunipara; and Thakur Murmu from EMRS Bangiriposi.
By facilitating advanced coaching opportunities, the state aims to ensure that talented students from remote areas can compete on equal footing with peers nationwide.
The initiative is expected to inspire more tribal students
to pursue higher education in engineering and technology, reinforcing the
government’s vision of inclusive development.
