BRICS Meet / BRICS Education Ministers’ Meeting Begins Today in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: The capital city of Odisha is all set to host the 13th BRICS Education Ministers’ Meeting and the 3rd BRICS Senior Officials’ Meeting starting Wednesday, under its BRICS Chairship 2026.

The high-level gatherings will bring together education ministers, senior officials, and delegates from BRICS member countries to strengthen cooperation in education, skills development, research, and innovation.

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi will represent India at the ministerial deliberations.

The meetings will focus on advancing Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), expanding collaboration in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) through the BRICS TVET Cooperation Alliance, promoting joint research and innovation, supporting start-ups, and enhancing the Mutual Recognition of Qualifications (MRQ) framework.

Another priority will be building academic leadership capacity across member nations to foster inclusive and innovation-driven growth.

Guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, India’s chairship reflects the people-centric vision articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2025 BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

The Bhubaneswar meetings build on earlier engagements under the BRICS Education Track, including senior officials’ meetings in April, the BRICS Network University Conference, and the International Governing Board Meeting in July.

Ahead of the ministerial discussions, the BRICS TVET Symposium and Joint Management Committee Meeting were held in New Delhi under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, focusing on workforce preparedness, skills development, and best practice exchange.

Complementing these efforts, the government has launched the Model BRICS initiative, a student-focused programme designed to familiarise youth with BRICS institutions, diplomacy, and multilateral cooperation.

The Bhubaneswar meetings are expected to reinforce educational collaboration among BRICS nations, laying the foundation for stronger partnerships in innovation, skills, and sustainable development.
