Bhubaneswar, Jul 17: AIIMS Bhubaneswar is set to host its 6th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, July 18, 2026, marking another milestone in its journey of academic excellence and advanced healthcare, officials said on Friday.

Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, is scheduled to attend the event as Chief Guest and confer degrees upon the graduating students.

Announcing the details at a press briefing, AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas said the convocation will also witness the presence of Mukesh Mahaling, Odisha’s Health & Family Welfare Minister, and Aparajita Sarangi, Lok Sabha MP from Bhubaneswar, among other dignitaries.

A total of 684 students will receive degrees across diverse disciplines. The graduating batch includes 192 MBBS students, 163 MD/MS students, 60 DM/MCh students, 17 Post-Doctoral Fellows, 4 PhD scholars, 134 BSc (Hons.) Nursing students, 75 BSc (Hons.) Paramedical students, and 39 MSc Nursing students. In recognition of academic excellence, 61 Gold Medals will be awarded to 32 meritorious students.

The press conference was attended by senior faculty and administrators including Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida (Dean, Academic), Dr. Manaswini Mangaraj (Dean, Examination), Dr. Baijayantimala Mishra (Dean, Research), Dr. Prabhas Ranjan Tripathy (Medical Superintendent), and others.

In a significant development, AIIMS Bhubaneswar has approved the establishment of a dedicated Neonatal Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) under the Department of Pediatric Surgery. The specialized unit will provide advanced preoperative stabilization, postoperative intensive care, and multidisciplinary management for critically ill newborns requiring complex surgical interventions. The initiative is expected to reduce avoidable referrals, improve survival rates, and strengthen postgraduate training and clinical research in neonatal surgery.

With its dual focus on academic excellence and advanced patient care, AIIMS Bhubaneswar continues to reinforce its role as a premier tertiary referral centre for Eastern India.
