Bhubaneswar, Jul 15: AIIMS Bhubaneswar celebrated its 14th Foundation Day on Wednesday, highlighting its rapid transformation into a premier medical institution in India. The event was attended by dignitaries including Dr. Prashant P. Joshi, Executive Director of AIIMS Nagpur, as Chief Guest, and Dr. Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, President of AIIMS Bhopal and the first Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, as Guest of Honour, officials said.
Dr. Joshi lauded the institute’s achievements in healthcare, academics, and research, describing it as a benchmark for other institutions nationwide. He credited visionary leadership and teamwork for its success. Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas congratulated the fraternity for its continued growth, while Dr. Mahapatra emphasised the need for sustained innovation and dedication to maintain excellence.
Senior faculty members including Dean (Academic) Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida, Medical Superintendent Dr. Prabhas Ranjan Tripathy, Dean (Examination) Dr. Manaswini Mangaraj, Dean (Research) Dr. Baijayantimala Mishra, and Deputy Director (Administration) Lt. Col. Abhijit Sarkar highlighted the institute’s achievements and growing national prominence.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar now caters to nearly 5,500 OPD patients daily. Over the past year, it has strengthened tertiary care capabilities with the launch of a comprehensive Liver Transplant Programme and a state-of-the-art Surgical Robotic System. More than 100 robotic surgeries have already been performed, underscoring its expertise in advanced minimally invasive care.

Reflecting its rising stature, the institute was recognised as the 2nd Most Improved Medical College in the India Today-MDRA Survey 2026. Earlier in the day, floral tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who laid the foundation stone of AIIMS Bhubaneswar on July 15, 2003. Academic activities began in 2012, and the hospital was inaugurated in 2014. Notably, it remains the only AIIMS whose foundation stone was personally laid by Vajpayee.
With its growing reputation in healthcare delivery, education, and research, AIIMS Bhubaneswar continues to set new benchmarks for medical institutions across the country.
