Cuttack, Jul 13: A woman jewellery trader was allegedly attacked and robbed of Rs 36 lakh in cash by two motorcycle-borne miscreants on the Taladanda Canal Bridge in Cuttack on Monday, a source said.

The woman, who sustained injuries in the attack, was on her way to Kolkata to purchase gold when the assailants intercepted her and fled with the cash-filled bag.

The victim, a resident of Nayasadak in Cuttack, was reportedly travelling from the OMP Square to Kolkata for a business transaction when the robbery took place.

Cash Bag Snatched After Assault
According to the source, the two unidentified miscreants attacked the woman on the bridge before snatching the bag containing Rs 36 lakh. They fled the spot on a motorcycle immediately after the incident.

The injured trader was shifted for medical treatment. Police have launched an investigation and a manhunt is underway to nab the miscreants.

Mobile Snatcher Nabbed In Capital
In a separate development, the Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar arrested an alleged member of a mobile phone snatching gang that had been targeting commuters at bus stops and railway stations across the city.

Police said the gang allegedly stole mobile phones from passengers during the night and later sold the stolen devices at low prices near educational institutions and commercial areas.

One Arrested, Three Others Escape
Acting on a tip-off, cops from Nayapalli Police Station conducted a raid near Deba Ray (D.R) Nayapalli College, where four persons were allegedly attempting to sell mobile phones at unusually low prices.

One accused, identified as Gaurab Nonia, a resident of West Bengal, was apprehended, while three others fled after spotting the police.

Police seized two Android mobile phones from his possession.

Accused Admits to Theft, Search Continues
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to stealing the two mobile phones from Jaydev Vihar Bus Stop and CRP Bus Stop, police said.

Police launched a search to trace the remaining members of the gang, and further investigation is underway.
