Kendrapada, Aug 28: A security guard was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths at Pattamundai sub-divisional hospital in Odisha's Kendrapara district after he stopped them from attempting to meet a doctor by jumping the queue, a source said Friday.
According to the source, seven youths from Naranpur village under Kendrapada block had arrived at the hospital to meet the doctor on Thursday night. When security guard Debasish Behera allegedly stopped them from entering in an unruly manner and asked them to follow the queue, an argument broke out.
Jitendra Sethy, a security guard and colleague of Debasish, said, “Debasish told the group not to jump the queue and not to behave in a rowdy manner inside the hospital premises. That led to a verbal altercation, after which they beat him up. Later, we caught hold of three of them while the others fled.”
On being informed, police reached the spot and detained three youths, while the others allegedly fled.

Debasish was initially treated at Pattamundai Sub-divisional Hospital. However, after his condition reportedly deteriorated, he was shifted to the Kendrapada District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment.
Following the incident, Debasish’s father lodged a written complaint at Pattamundai police station. Police have launched an investigation into the alleged assault.

Two Home Guards Attacked In Bhadrak
Two Home Guards were allegedly attacked while on duty at Bideipur Chhak under Nayakanidihi police station limits in Bhadrak district late Thursday night, leaving both injured, a source said.
According to the source, the two Home Guards attached to Nayakanidihi police station were on duty at Bideipur Chhak when they attempted to move stray cattle lying on the road to ensure the safety of commuters. At the time, two youths allegedly approached the Home Guards and got into an argument with them. The situation reportedly escalated, with the two youths assaulting the personnel.
The incident triggered tension at the spot.
On being informed, police personnel from three police stations, along with the SDPO, reached the area and brought the situation under control. The two alleged attackers fled the spot.
Following the incident, Debasish’s father lodged a written complaint at Pattamundai police station. Police have launched an investigation into the alleged assault.
