Crime in Odisha / Raurkela Railway Inspector Arrested for Rape Allegation

Raurkela, Sep 5: Raurkela Railway Station, considered a high‑security zone with hundreds of CCTV cameras, has been rocked by a shocking allegation of rape inside a restroom on Platform No. 1.

According to police, a woman passenger from Nuapada district lodged a complaint against Kapileswar Singh (54), an Inspector in the Railway Workers Department.

The accused allegedly lured her with the promise of arranging a confirmed ticket to Bengaluru, took her into the operator’s room, locked the door, and committed the crime.

The victim was traveling with her two sisters. After mistakenly boarding a different train, they reached Hatia and later arrived at Raurkela around 9 pm.

Without confirmed tickets to Bengaluru, one sister went to the inquiry counter while the victim remained on the platform. Singh reportedly approached her, offered help, and then led her to the room where the assault took place.

Following the complaint, Singh was immediately suspended from service and taken into custody by the Government Railway Police (GRP). The victim has identified him, and her medical examination has been conducted. A case has been registered under BNS Section 64(2)(b).

Senior railway officials have launched an internal probe, while GRP continues its investigation. The incident has sparked outrage, raising serious questions about passenger safety at Raurkela station, a sensitive border hub where heavy footfall is common.
