Crime in Odisha / Pregnant Woman Alleges Rape by Pastor in Bhawanipatna

Bhawanipatna, Aug 13: A disturbing case has surfaced in Bhawanipatna Sadar police station area where an eight‑month pregnant woman has accused a local pastor of raping her under the guise of prayer and healing.

According to police, the incident took place on August 8 in Themera village under Pastikudi area. The victim and her husband had visited the pastor’s house on August 7 after he assured them that prayer sessions would cure her recurring health problems.

The pastor reportedly told them she would need to stay at his house for two to three days.

On the day of the incident, the pastor allegedly mixed medicine into liquor and served it to the woman’s husband, who soon became unconscious. Taking advantage of the situation, he raped the woman despite her cries for help. Later, she narrated the ordeal to her husband after waking him up.

The couple claimed that when they confronted the pastor, he threatened to kill them if they revealed the incident and even assaulted them.

Traumatized, they returned home and lodged a complaint at Bhawanipatna Sadar police station on August 10.

Sadar police registered a case and began investigation under the supervision of IIC Chitta Ranjan Pradhani. The accused pastor has since absconded, and police have formed a special team to track him down. Raids are being conducted at various locations.

Police confirmed that the victim has undergone medical examination and her statement has been recorded. The incident has sparked outrage, with locals demanding strict action against the accused.

Authorities said the pastor has been on the run since the day of the crime, and efforts are being intensified to arrest him.

Officials assured that the investigation is ongoing and justice will be delivered.
