Crime in Odisha / Kataka Horror: Five Arrested for Abduction and Gang Rape

Kataka, Aug 13: Kataka district police have arrested five accused in connection with the gang rape of a young woman near Sukarpada on the Kataka-Chandbali road under the jurisdiction of the Nishchintakoili police station. The arrested men are reportedly from Nishchintakoili and Kendrapara areas.
Police registered a case against the accused under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 109, 115(1), 324(2), 351(3), 70(1) (gang rape), and 87. Due to the sensitivity of the case, the names of the accused have not yet been disclosed.
According to reports, the incident occurred late Tuesday night. A young man and his female companion were traveling by car towards Kendrapada.

Feeling fatigued, the man parked the vehicle near the Public Works Department Dak Bungalow at Sukarpada and rested inside. Around 3 to 3:30 AM, a group of 4-6 miscreants arrived, broke the car window, assaulted the man, and dragged the woman to a nearby abandoned house where she was gang raped.
The miscreants later attempted to take the victim away in another car. However, her male companion chased them in his own vehicle.

✨Near Katikata, the woman’s cries alerted local residents, who, along with her companion, managed to intercept the miscreants’ car. While most fled, one was caught by locals and handed over to police.
Nishchintakoili police reached the spot, took the victim and her companion to the station, and registered the case based on her complaint. The victim has undergone medical examination.
Kataka Rural SP Vineet Agrawal, Additional SP Pradeepta Kumar Sahoo, and Salepur SDPO Biranchi Narayan Pati visited the crime scene.
Acting on the SP’s instructions, police formed four teams and conducted raids in Nishchintakoili, Mahanga, and Nemalo areas, leading to the arrest of five accused. DSP Pratima Behera has been assigned to lead the investigation.
The victim hails from Kendrapada Sadar police station area,
while her male companion is from Fatehgarh in Nayagada district. Police said
further investigation is underway to identify and arrest the remaining
culprits.
